    Based on PD No . 9 (Oct 2, 1972):

"... 3. It is unlawful to carry outside of residence any bladed, pointed or blunt weapon such as "fan knife," "spear," "dagger," "bolo," "balisong," "barong," "kris," or club, except where such articles are being used as necessary tools or implements to earn a livelihood and while being used in connection therewith; and any person found guilty thereof shall suffer the penalty of imprisonment ranging from five to ten years as a Military Court/Tribunal/Commission may direct..."

Does this cover the baton (perhaps one can argue that it is a club)?

And if so, can we use the excuse that the reason why we're carrying it is because we are instructors and these are "necessary tools to earn a livelihood"? [Or the same excuse for those carrying knives, "We're instructors and we need these to teach our students".]

Any lawyers out there who could shed light on this issue?

Its not the actual looks or pogi-ness of the person.... it is the image of your intent. If you are projecting and you would look like you have bad intentions, then Yes, huli ka! Regarding your barong, sayang naman yon! but actually there's a certain (and safe) way to carry your arms when travelling. Batons are still considered as deadly weapons.

I am not a lawyer, but yes, a baton is a club by definition. A club (also known as cudgel, baton, truncheon, night stick or bludgeon) is among the simplest of all weapons. A club is essentially a short staff, or stick, usually made of wood, and wielded as a weapon that is mainly used to hit someone or something.
