Are extendable batons legal in the Philippines?

I used to be a local distributor of those things. It is supposed to be illegal, but I was at a checkpoint at one time while I was on my scoot and the police saw mine that had a flashlight attachment and checked it out. They asked, "ano ito? para saan ito?". It actually looked like a maglite but I thought that maybe I should admit what it was. "Baton po siya at puwede din flashlight... pang self-defense", I replied. "Ah baton... pano buksan?" So I flicked it out and they said, "Aba ayos ito'a! Magkano ba yung ganito?" They let me go without a hassle anyways.

I would say that unless you get involved in using it in a wrong way, you'll be fine.

By the way, if you're getting one, don't get those crappy cheapy ones. Delikado pa yun kasi tumatalsik yung dulo. Baka masaktan mo pa sarili mo.

I learned this the hard way. I bought those cheapo ones from Greenhills. mga 300Php lang yata each. When I flicked one out, naiwan yung rubber handle sa kamay ko at lumipad yung baton, tumama sa pusa namin.
