I base my 2 cents on having trained with Dan Inosanto, Richard Bustillo for many years at the origianl Kali academy. Which Kali opens another can of worms.

Ive got a foot to stand on.

I felt that its just flim flam. I went in my own direction.

Paulson doesnt do JKD. He uses catch wrestling and Shooto

We are talking about the curriculum that is being taught in schools not the concepts

I dont mention that its a race thing. It was his environment...He was in Hong kong. Hence where he learned his base.

    2 cents

Having crossed sticks with Eric Paulson, I know he doesn't just do catch wrestling and shooto.

You were talking roots. You said that if he was "Filipino" or "Russian", not if he was born/raised in the Philippines/Russia. So, it was natural for me to interpret what you said as a race thing.

    if JKD works

then by default it would be in the ring

    whats in the ring today?
Then, according to this, FMA definitely doesn't work.

You trained at Dan Inosanto's school, and you don't think they fight? I've attended fights where my cousins represented Dan's school in muay thai, savate and mma matches.

    I question your sources

He runs a school called CSW in Fullerton. It stands for Combat Submission Wrestling.

"I know he doesn't just do catch wrestling and shooto "

Hmmm thats odd...Paulson was a shooto champ in Japan. Thats his claim to fame. Being the first foreigner to win it.

And he was taught shooto by Yori Nakamura and then got into catch as catch can wrestling

Dont believe me check it out

Im just trying to help. It doenst matter what you practice. If your happy then thats all that matters.

    End of thread

You question my sources? My sources are Eric Paulson and Dan Inosanto. I first met Paulson when he was assisting Guro Dan at one of his JKD seminars. He placed himself squarely as a student of Guro Dan's in JKD.

The important term in my statement was "just". I didn't deny his proficiency in shooto, my statement didn't limit him to only shooto though. I'm aware he studied with Yori Nakamura. They met while he was training JKD under Dan Inosanto. Actually they were both studying JKD under Guro Dan. He also studied under Rick Faye, Larry Hartsell, Tim Tackett and a few other JKD instructors under Guro Dan. That's a lot of JKD instructors to study under to not be doing JKD.

Actually I'm an FMA guy. As I live here in the Philippines, it seems only fitting.

i use FMA in the ring...
also, there are way too many martial arts that's not in the ring, but still there applications are substantial.

I dabbled a bit in my younger years and still use the old adage, "absorb what is useful, reject what it useless and add what is essentially your own."
