Because Filipinos like things that are "IMPORTED" and not "LOCAL", We like to speak english/taglish, wear "imported" clothes, eat "imported" foods and live an "imported" lifestyle... hell we even like "imported" skin (skin whitening), most if not ALL Filipinos are not proud to be what it is to be a "True" Filipino, if wearing a Three stars and a Sun shirt and stuff like that makes you feel like you are a proud Pinoy thats fine but thats not where it should stop...As the time goes by our Filipino culture is slowly being watered down and someday a lot of our traditions and culture will disappear and we will be what most Filipinos want to be... Imported.

ruel brod, its knowing the fact that foreigners tend to like FMA and using that idea to make them more interested.

"Mabenta" ang FMA since it's something new to them. A lot of them haven't seen it. Most of them haven't even heard the terms Arnis, Kali, Escrima, etc. And for sure, there are only a limited number of people who have experienced it. All they know is UFC, Boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Judo, etc...

With that in mind, kasama ang pagiging patriotic filipino ko, I always promote FMA first above all else. They become aware that FMA has everything it needs to compete with every and all of martial arts. On my class, i adopt FMA techniques and FMA mentality on my lessons - so they experience it first hand. I make sure that I explained and show them very well the differences of approach, techniques, and mindsets so they would have a clear idea about what I am teaching them.

I have pretty ladies wanting more ardigma stuff. I have amateur boxers wanting more yaw-yan stuff. I have moms wanting to be more fit and are always present on my class. The uniqueness of FMA and the practicality of our art makes everything easier for them to comprehend. They learn fast. It's simple and effective. Hindi fancy. Hindi sila naiinip. Hindi sila nagsasawa. They keep coming back. In short, Mabenta!

In the philippines the story is different. gusto ng karamihan imported because the same logic i mentioned above applies - "bago, uso, galing sa malayo, kakaiba". kaya mabenta ang ibang martial arts sa pinas.

yung boy negro, ibang istorya yon, out of topic.

Well explained! Akala ko mabenta sa chicks eh.

I'm a teacher here. Well... kind of. Yung mga students ko sometimes ask, "what are you?" Funny question... mukha ba akong alien? I would reply that I am half-filipino half-chinese, I came from the Philippines but I was born in Thailand. Yeah... they give me that confused look. But they would ask if I know how to do a Chinese flip and all... I would say that I don't but I know Arnis/Kali/Eskrima, and give me that confused look again. Di kasi nila alam yun.

Si Kru Le Loup lang at si Master Sic ang mabenta sa chicks....

Brod, that's the perfect opportunity for you to introduce them to FMA. They ask because they are curious. They look confused because they don't know a thing. Fill an empty mind with the right information and it'll go a long way.

@ lbb: chinese flip? sabihin mo: "yes ia ma a chinese flip!" (flip bing the derrogatory slang for filipino).

@ burungkol: matagal ka na namin binebenta!

seriously though, i wished we could at least get that same level or awe and respect we get from foreigners when tyhey see arnis/ escrima/ kali/ estocada/ etc.

To be fair to our own countrymen, it could also be that the FMA seen by foreigners is "export quality" while the fma forced upon Filipino school children or seen in various parks is... well.... crap. Since moving here, I've run into so many guys who call themselves master or grandmaster and of the hundreds I've seen, maybe a half-dozen deserve that title. The other guys should be taking lessons.
