Although recently in the local news, the last person who tried to help some old fella from being mauled by teen thugs got hit on the head by a rock & a broken bottle.

If you guys were in a similar situation, would you save the innocent bystander from a mauling knowing that you will risk your well being doing so?
I would not intervene if the odds are against me. It's just something that's practical. Reality-based self defense is all about survival. I am not a fool to get myself into trouble and I am not a bad samaritan either, but consider this - the scenario is based at a public transport, there are a lot of people, not just you, the mugger, and a possible 3rd-party victim. There might even be security or staff personnel that's available. The best thing to do is to call their attention.

BUT!!!! If its your only resort, or its you who's in that predicament, ThreadKiller had provided valuable information to get yourself out of there.

I guess your right, it just that I would love for someone to teach those young troublemakers a lesson.
