Default Defense against someone weilding a broken bottle

Serious question. It's just that in my city, a lot of teen idiots have been seen to be picking up fights brandishing a broken bottle usually on trains. I use the public transportation a lot & I just want to be ready just in case I encounter these drunken a s s h o l e s.

The typical arnis approach against any weapon is to attack the weapon or weapon hand with our own weapon -- to de-fang the snake. In this case, as the broken bottle is comparatively fragile, striking it with a stick or other hard object like a baton, lap top, heavy book, rock or even backpack would probably destroy the weapon. If you are unarmed (and this really is a matter of choice, as it is very easy to look around and pick up something, anything to use as a weapon), then you'd need to use lateral movement to outflank the attacking object to avoid the sharp edges and grab the weapon hand. If you're near a wall or post you could smash the bottle and/or your opponent against it. Simultaneous knee strikes, elbow strikes and head butts should then follow to incapacitate the attacker.

@shootodog: Overseas bro. Yeah I pretty much avoid the clubs & the commute during night time. I just want to have an idea in case I have the misfortune of encountering some drunken fags on the train.

@burungkol: I agree with that bro. I probably would steer away from trouble once it presents itself. The thing is, I'm just concerned if some other poor fella gets in the way of those thugs and those thugs try to do some harm. I feel that I might just try & intervene. Although recently in the local news, the last person who tried to help some old fella from being mauled by teen thugs got hit on the head by a rock & a broken bottle.

@Threadkiller: Thanks for the advice. The thing is I don't think it's legal from where I am to carry a baton or arnis stick. Another problem would be multiple attackers. Those teen thugs usually come in a group. I came across a site that suggests bringing a cane or something in place of the baton or stick. I'm not that old though so it might look funny on me.

If you guys were in a similar situation, would you save the innocent bystander from a mauling knowing that you will risk your well being doing so?

oh... hahaha... a belt with a heavy buckle is always handy for choking, disarming, hitting and so much more. You'll have to learn how though.
