sir jonz, i would say that those speaking in dpmag already has a good set of lenses and equipments. they've been here and there with the equipment and stuff with them. thus they go and try out different cams afterwards. I assume that you, somehow, is on the starting point - no equipment, limited money, limited resources, etc.
Lenses are reusable, a good lens would and could last a lifetime. Cameras are being replaced as quick as you could press the shutters. remember that your image is being captured through the lens. camera-wise, it still does the same thing - interpret what goes thru the lens.
i guess the camera capability such as dpi, etc. would matter and would greatly depend on where you would want to print the end-product. higher dpi are suitable for larger print formats... otherwise, there's no need to get higher end cameras. that's why i say put your money more on the lenses instead.
oh, and one more thing that I learned (from NY institute of photog): its not the violin, its the violinist.

ah.... a plunge of wisdom from the wise. thanks sir barunkol
i like street photography and hardly do any set shoots. for dslr i say invest in full frame cameras. old full frames are still good. cheaper too. if you do not invest in full frame cameras, you have to remember that the focal length of your lens is affected by the crop sensor by 1.5 times. examples would be a 35mm lens (x1.5) would come out to a 52.5mm focal length.
my advise also regarding lenses is that you would be wise to invest in prime lenses (not tele-wide kits). the reason for this is that the set focal length allows the lens to have fewer elements thus resulting in a faster lens with sharper imaging. my top lens picks would be 24mm/f2, 50mm/f1.8, 135/f2.8. since i am a street photographer by heart i usually just carry a 24mm/f2 or a 50/1.8 on my dslr. (my other cameras usually have 50mm/f1.2 but that's because they're rangefinders).
for kit tele-wides carry "the range" with you. a good 18-105mm/f3.5-5.6 and a 70-300mm/f3.5-5.6 will cover all ranges. do not be surprised if the images aren't as good as the prime lenses. too many elements to make up the tele-wides.
as for flashes, you can get by with the pop-up and a diy diffuser and diy soft box. when you're "ready", the best value for money is a nissin brand speedlight. does everything the branded ones do for less money. i personally like shooting without flash but that's just me.
peace and love and happiness
kamusta naman?
thanks shootdog.
heheh true pero its contradicting to the concept of ranks hahahaha
