I'm turning 40 this year as well started doing triathlons when I was 35
Any training activity pwede , mas maganda nga kung sport specific
Basta do it loooong and do it slow
as long as it's intense enough to sweat , pero you can still speak a complete sentence /wout stopping to breathe, you're approximately in the right training zone
Good news - no more sidestitch , bad news - you have to train longer
For a more detailed explanation , google "base training"

Someone may ask , bakit sila george st pierre , puro hataw ang training during the 3-4months before the fight
Probably because 6mo or more before the fight, he was working on drills and technique ( cardio ) and probaly plio work

If your starting from zero , work on the looong and low intensity cardio stuff muna , hopefully the fight is still a long time away
ONLY! do more and more short duration high intensity stuff pag palapit na fight/tournament/race

i'm not a fitness instructor, so if anyone disagrees please feel free to contradict

Counter-intuitve ano? I thought dati , conditioning meant always going hard for as long as possible all the time
While that may work sa sex , doing that in training will lead to injury or over trainng or burnout

here's a better analogy - turbo charged engine

your aerobic energy system is an engine
The anaerobic energy system is the turbo charger

if you slap on a turbo charger on a small engine , the car will go fast for awhile before the engine explodes
What you need to do is build a bigger engine, and then add the turbo charger
Then you'll have a race car

Hi Dobotap, thanks for the advise. Been doing what you said. Doing it long and slow. Been walking home from Pioneer to Riverbanks Marikina. Relaxed pace lang ng walking, pero siyempre, always alert. Baka may makakursunada, e. Anyway, di naman lagi, may laktaw naman. Napansin ko, nung nakikipag-roll na ako with some younger guys, mejo tumatagal na rin ako. It's either I do the techniques much better these last few days or may stamina is starting to develop na rin.

Anyway, thanks for the advise... and nice analogy on the car and engine...! :-)

Poor cardio. do jogs and running if you have free time. If I were you I will run 5-10Km a day before going to office work.

maybe poor cardio. I also had that kind of pain on my right torso when I first join a marathon. Just rest for a couple of minutes and the pain will slowly diminish. Memento Mori
