    Default A Video Game approach to MMA Training

    An easy way to understand something is to relate it to something else we understand. What better than video games? In MMATycoon.com, you handle and train fighters in a similar way that you would in real life. You improve upon specific attributes that make them better fighters over time. I will use this format to illustrate how I think one should approach training as a competitive MMA fighter.

    In MMATycoon.com your fighter has three skill sets: Primary (Overall), Secondary (Specific), and Physical. They come in order of importance in winning fights.

    Primary skills (I will change the wording a little bit) would include Striking, Clinching, and Grappling. These skills are improved through Skill-specific training, specifically Sparring. These skills would constitute one's general fighting ability.

    Secondary skills are skills in specific areas of one's primary skills. These include Punches, Kicks, Standing elbows, Knees, Clinchwork, Striking defense, Takedowns, Takedown defense, Ground & pound, Submissions, and Defensive grappling. These skills are improved through drilling and repetition. Primary Skill is the ability to use Secondary Skills together in application.

    Physical Skills is basically Physical Fitness. It consists of Agility (trained with skill, yoga, and agility drills), Flexibility (trained by skill, specific stretching, and yoga), Speed (trained with skill, and speed and quickness drills), Strength (through strength and power training), Conditioning (through skill, and energy systems work), and Balance (through skill, yoga, and balance drills). Basically it's all GPP, and most of it comes with Skill training, and can be trained further with Crossfit-type ****. These attributes do not dictate who wins the fight, but will give one an advantage through superior performance, especially in a stalemate.

    So in summary, as it is with video games, one should make a balanced training schedule depending on what kind of fighter one desires to be. Know your priorities and goals, and train smart. That's what I think.
